Albury 1 Saint Hill Blues 6

A long trip to the Surrey Downs rewarded with another victory

We went into a game knowing very little about the opposition with them only having played two games, winning one and loosing one.

The game was played on a pretty big pitch and although it was nice to have one that was cut, it was suffering from a pretty hefty mole infestation with lumps and bumps all over.

Anyhow the game set off and we created a early chance from which we were unlucky not to score, but then on the break we conceded when they scored from a very tight angle on the right. From the resulting kick off we pressurised the opposition again and got the break down the left side where Adam drilled in our first from a very tight angle.

Even though the pitch was large we seemed to condense our play in a very congested middle of the pitch and the game took on a scruffy look, but we still looked the dominant team with great strength and determination being shown from Ben DeTurris and Jack. In fact it was Jack that provided an excellent ball in for Freddie to score the second goal. The half was topped off with another goal by Adam and we went into halftime 3-1 up.

The second half started pretty much in the same vein as the first and was I still concerned why we were playing so narrowly. This is something I’ll have to address in training on Thursday, so back to the game: Freddie got himself another brace of goals, one from good determination and battling and the other converted from an Adam pass. We also had another Freddie goal disallowed and a dead cert penalty turned down for offside, both decisions seemed rather controversial.

It was good to see our lads taking all this in their stride and they did finish off the game with another goal scored by Alex Bingham, ending the game as a good 6-1 win to us.

My special mentions of the day go to:

Toby, who pulled off three great saves of which two were taken high in the air, something for which Matt and Keith had been coaching him last Thursday evening.

Adam, who with an injured knee still battled hard and scored two good goals.

Freddie, another good hattrick, one from strength and another really well taken from Jack’s pass.

Jon, Max, Alex Higham and Ben Deturris, all showed good strength at times to hold the back tight.

Jack, who is this week’s man of the match, he followed on from good performances of the past two weeks and was very good at breaking up play to get us moving forward, his battling qualities and energy were excellent.
