Back to league action for the first time in six weeks. Today we played Brockham Badgers Bullets, this is the only team we had not played yet, although the ground was the one where we won our last round of the cup.
At start of play our opponents were sitting 8th in the league table and we were in 5th but do have games in hand of all above us.
The game kicked off and it was us who took the upper hand with lots of early possession, and we didn’t have to wait too long before our first goal came, Josh drove in a corner which was taken by Jon who in turn passed to Adam who then slotted the ball home.
From the kick off we again took possession and pressed in the oppositions half, our second goal came soon after the first when a bunch of players in the box were scrapping over the ball, which then came out to Josh to fire home a terrific shot into the net.
The half progressed and Saint Hill was playing some good football with Jack and Will really pulling the strings in the centre of Midfield. Benjie, after an Injury scare the previous day was moving more freely as the game progressed, he too was making some telling passes to get Freddie on his way, and this was the way the third goal came with Freddie so unlucky when he shot and hit the post but luckily Josh was there on hand to knock it in.
Freddie didn’t have to wait too long a goal though becasue he got on the end of a good pass from Adam and banged it in the net. Then for Feddie, like busses another to come along when he latched on the end of a Adam corner.
Goal number six and Josh’s hattrick came when Feddie laid the ball back for Benjie, he struck the ball well but this was prevented from going in, but again Josh was there to follow up and tap in.
The half finished with a 7th, this time all the creative work was done by Jack, he then passed the ball out to Josh who slotted home from the tightest of angles.
Half Time 7-0
The second half kicked off, again we had most possession and were creating some good chances, Will and Adam had switched position and was good to see Will making some good runs down the left wing.
The run of the pitch in this half did mean the ball ran away from us much more than in the first half but as said we still maintained most possession controlled the play and about 10 minutes into the half Benjie got himself a nice goal.
Soon after the kick off we had took possession again, the ball passed from Will to Adam who then in turn drove thought the centre of their midfield and then on to score his second.
In this half the Defence were worked more but all were more than up to it and can only remember Toby having to make one good solid catch when a ball was hit straight at him and then later he pulled off a great save when the ball was struck well towards the left of his goal by the opposition.
Alex H and Ben De T were both linking up really well with the midfield throughout the whole game and Ben grabbed himself a lovely goal which he blasted in from outside the area. This was to be our last goal and we ended up 10-0 winners, a great display by all.
Today the triangles I talk to the guys about so much before the game really worked well, with Alex, Josh and Jack on one side and then Ben De T, Adam and Will on the other, it is great to see this in action.
The Centre 2 of Jon and Max were solid and times during the match when perhaps one was beaten there was great covering by the other to clear up, for the first time in real match action Jon and Jack switching positions at set pieces, really worked well and Jon’s presence in the box I’m sure will pay dividends soon.
Toby, he had one of those games where for long periods it was very quiet and I’m sure he was pretty cold too, but whenever he was called upon he was there, he pulled of a fine save as said above and he distribution was good too.
Benjie, in that centre role in midfield, his vision for the right pass is great and is popping up to grab a goal on a regular basis now.
Freddie, 2 goals again today and was a big part of at least 2 more and is great to see how he is now holding up the ball and waiting until more men are in attacking positions to assists.
I found picking a man of the match today quite difficult, I thought the whole team played really well but will give it to Josh on his first half performance and for scoring 4 goals.
This result had put us up to 3rd place in the table with 3 games in hand on the team in 2nd place, and it is that team Storrington Vipers who we play at home next week.
