Forest Row 6 Saint Hill Blues 2
A scoreline that was slightly flattering to the home team
This game as suspected was a difficult encounter for us, right from the start we competed strongly and early on we had a couple of good chances one particular being a really good one from William when the ball was heading for the top corner which produce an excellent save from their keeper not long after that we conceded an unlucky own goal, but after that the boys battled hard and played some good football again.
The two guys up front for Forest Row looked pretty quick and it was their speed caught us out for their second goal, again we continued to work hard and was eventually rewarded with a goal from all our efforts from Alex B.
The half finished with us conceding a further 2 goals and went in at half time undeservedly 4-1 down.
In the second half we continued to have a good share of possession in the early stages but conceded another goal, it seems the half was taking the same pattern as the fist but we persisted and were rewarded with a penalty after good strength from Freddie in the right side of the Box, Adam stepped up and scored another great goal from the spot.
After this I thought we played our best football of the day with some great possession putting Forest Row under a lot of pressure having their goalkeeper making a lot of good saves, late in the game we did concede one more goal and finally lost 6-2.
It was a result that really flattered the opposition and although on balance they did deserve the win but never by that margin.
I was really impressed with the way our team kept their heads up today and competed really well, yes there were times when a little more composure on the ball before making the pass would have helped to keep possession and our defence did seem to have their hands full with their front two who were both very quick but all in all I was impressed with the way we kept going to the end.
With regards to individual performances today:
Toby, this was the first game all season when he has had work to do, he pulled of some good saves one in particular which to me looked like it was a dead cert goal and finally I was really impressed with his upbeat manner after the game where his was trying his best to lift he heads of his team mates.
Jon, made his debut today and came on just before half time and looked very strong and good to see some long range passing to put us into attack from defence and one came up from the back and hit a great shot from distance also I liked his contribution of enthusiasm and encouragement from sidelines.
Adam, his leadership qualities were superb with great communication to the team before and during the game and he had a strong first half performance and capped that with a great penalty in the second half.
Max and Ben DeTurris both guys were worked very half with many good tackles and clearances.
Alex B. today I gave Alex my Man of the match, he scored our first goal and had many other chances he was quite often in the right place when the ball came in and only the keeper stopped him from scoring more, his vision was good when on the ball and broke up play often when the opposition were in attack.
