Maidenbower 1 Saint Hill Blues 14

Success in first round of League Cup

So another of those games which was so one sided but the team went out and played some good football again with some great moves which lead to some impressive goals, before the game I had asked the team if they got to a position where they were so far in front again to keep their shape as I had felt that the previous week we got to a point where they lost all shape in their desire to score as many as they could, I really thought they had taken that on board and would like to congratulate them for doing so.

The game itself took on a similar pattern to last week with an early goal followed by lots of pressure and then us  getting the own goal, it was a game that was then totally dominated by us in both halves.

I took the opportunity to try out a couple of tactical changes during the game, one was to switch Josh and Adam to each others wings, during the period of doing this we scored 2 goals and thought this is something I would be happy to try again when we perhaps need to give the opposition something different to think about. Then in the second half with the injury to Max I went with three in defence thinking the opposition would not trouble us too much and had asked the central midfielders to be aware of this and cover if any of the defenders went forward in attack and really though that Ben T had listened well and showed great defensive covering at times.

Marcus joined up with the team today, Marcus has been playing with SHB U13 teams for some time now but has signed up with us too, I thought his awareness on the ball was superb and willingness to pass and move to receive again was also a strength  and his excellent debut performance also gave him 2 goals.

Freddie, well another 6 goals to his name making the division’s top scorer thus far.

Adam and Josh combined to score a goal which for me was one of the best goals I have seen at this level, great vision from Adam to see Josh calling for the ball and delivered a 35 yard cross field ball right to where Josh was who then in turn hit the ball on the half volley and scored.

Alex B, scored 3 goals and seemed to link up really well with Freddie playing just behind him in the centre of midfield.

And my final mention goes to my Man of the match William, since he joined us I have played him at Left back which by his own admission is not a position he has played before, but he has played there for us and has done really well. In the past games I have allowed him to swap with Adam in the second half but because of the injury to Max he was not able to do so today.  William covers lots of ground, talks and makes great challenges and does all this in a very unassuming way, all which is a great credit to him.

Next Saturday should be much more of a test, we are back in league action at home to Walton Heath FC, this team a currently sitting 3rd in the table having won 2 out of their 3 games and only narrowly losing to the league leaders Ockley Acorns  3-1.
