Saint Hill Blues 13 Horsham Tigers 0
Back to winning ways
Today we took on Horsham Tigers, a team we beat 7-1 at the tail end of last year, in recent weeks the Tigers performances had taken an upturn and only last week they beat Albury Griffins 2-1 so I thought perhaps a tougher game today?
Saint Hill had the real luxury of having 12 players today, so lined up with Jack starting at right back and Alex H on the Bench.
From the kick-off Saint Hill pushed really hard taking the game to the Tigers and we didn’t have to wait long for our first goal, when Adam on the ball ran past a couple of their players to then slot the ball home. From the resulting kick-off we took possession again and were troubling their defenders and in no time Freddie found himself through on the left to take the ball round the keeper and to make it 2-0, so soon after that kick-off Freddie was off again, this time showing more good composure to take the ball round the keeper for a second time, a mirror image of his first goal.
For the next 10 minutes of the game we continued to dominate possession and test their defence. Alex H came on to his normal right back position and Jack moved up to central midfield, Jack had immediate effort there, breaking up the opponents play and got the ball out on the wing where another ball was fed through to Freddie who again planted the ball in the back of the net and for him to complete his hattrick.
So at 4-0 up our game was flowing really well and despite the sticky conditions the guys played good sensible football using the wings where the ground was much firmer, our 5th came with Alex H putting a lovely ball in for Josh to head home, a headed goal a real rarity and not a hair out of place.
We completed the half 5-0 up, which incidentally was the same half time score line we had at the Tigers ground.
The half time chat was just to cement the need to keep the ball wide and to continue playing the same attractive football.
As the half kicked off we continued to dominate the game and wasn’t long before Freddie netted his 4th which was then quickly followed by another, his 5th, the football was pretty impressive with great passing and all player without exception showing great intelligence in using the width of the pitch and just not letting up, the opposition barely had a touch of the ball, we were camped in the Tigers half. Our 8th goal came from Josh who fired a great one in at pace from an angle way out, their keeper got fingertips to it was unable to keep it out. This match had become so one sided and we were in complete control, Freddie added another our 9th his 6th, then soon after Adam slotted through a quality ball for Freddie to score yet again and a special moment, this was of some real significance to him and only later filtered through to the side lines, this was his official 50th goal of the season and his celebration saw him fling himself full length in the mud, well done Freddie!
Alex B then got a well-deserved goal from great persistence, he had threatened many times during the game, soon after this goal again he was stopped by their keeper who not only stopped from Alex but was involved in a series of saves before Freddie got the ball home, before the match ended there was time for another Freddie goal, his 9th and our 13th, Saint Hill winners 13-0
So a massive score line today and an impressive performance by all, as said above there was so much good intelligent football played and was a great see the boys back on winning ways after last week’s disappointing result.
My central midfield quartet of Benjie, Alex B, Jack and Marcus were all excellent and coped so well playing their game in the worst parts of the pitch, and feeding the wings really well.
Unfortunately for Toby I feel this was a unique game in that I don’t believe he had one save to make, the defence too had a untroubled game and done well all that was asked of them.
Today’s Man of the Match goes to Freddie, scored 9 goals great effort.
