Saint Hill Blues 9 Brockham Badgers 1

Second place and promotion secured!

Another victory today would see us keep up the pressure on second place Storrington vipers who were one point in front and were playing their last game against table toppers Forest Row.

Another game where it was evident from the kick-off we had the upper hand and it was only a matter of a couple of minutes in when Freddie opened the scoring for us.
Another goal came soon after when our dominance rewarded us with a corner, the corner well taken by Josh, whipped in with pace which Ben De T. met with his head and to score, 2-0.
Soon after Jack hit a cracking shot which looked destined for the top corner was only stopped by a save of great quality, the keeper getting diving well to get fingertips to it.
Then it was Josh’s turn to be unlucky, he hit a superb shot which hit the angle of the post and crossbar.
Eventually we got the third goal and a scorcher too, when Adam driving in from the left hit a long range low shot from the corner of the box.
Before the half ended there was still time for Jack to hit another well struck shot and for Freddie to hit the bar.
Halftime 3-0 up.

The second half kicked off, and again we were having total dominance, Brockham like in the first half never really got the chance to break out of their area, Adam got himself a brace of goals in the early stages, then Josh was on the score sheet after Adam set him up, Josh then repaid the favour when another well taken corner found Adams head.
Saint Hill now 7-0 up and were coasting when unfortunately we conceded a goal, Brockham passed the ball forward which one of their players ran on to and was strong enough to break through our defence and slot past Toby, apart from this I can remember Toby only having to make on other catch all game.
Soon after that goal we pushed hard again and grabbed another goal when yet another well taken corner from Josh found Jon this time who struck well to score.
To finish the game Josh added another goal and like his first he was found by an Adam pass.
Saint Hill victorious 9-1.

Today’s game gave us a well-deserved victory but I really felt the boys seemed emotionally flat and feel they just need the season to finish so they can look back and reflect on how well they have done in this first season together.

Today they played some good football which was echoed by Brockham’s manager.
Toby had one of those games where there was very little to do, the defence did well with Ben De T. filling in for Max and Will moving the Left, Jon got himself another goal taking his seasons tally to 5 and Alex H. as always doing the simple stuff so well.
The wingers of Adam and Josh delivered again scoring 4 and 2 goals respectively and Josh’s corners always looked a danger for the opposition.
Freddie up front got us off to a flyer and was so unlucky to add more to his account when he hit the bar.
The central trio of midfielders Jack, Alex B. and Benjie were the engine of today’s team and really worked well collectively to keep the pressure on the opposition, today’s man of the match goes to Jack who was so instrumental in all of this, he never stopped running, passed the ball well, broke up anything that Brockham tried to start and was so unlucky not to score himself with at least 3 well taken shots, well done Jack.

The good news that filtered out later in the evening was that Forest Row had beaten Storrington Vipers 6-1 which meant that we moved into our highest position in the league table all season of second place and more importantly no one could catch us now and so can guarantee promotion. Well done to you all…

We now have 2 games remaining starting next week away to Walton Heath, again we only have 11 players’ dues to Max’s vacation, following week we will have our last game of the season at home to Maidenbower but the venue for this is still to be confirmed.
