I missed the last game of the 2010/11 season ,when we played Hurst Hornets at home, but I understand both teams continued where they had left off today, and the score was the same! Perhaps the only differences being we created less chances today and they had at least 4 men in our half at times.
Hurst were determined to defend to the hilt and then try and make the best of any possible chances that may occur. We seemed unable to really penetrate or threaten when needed.
Certainly the early pressure and possession was all with us. A real chance coming from a lovely lay back from Oscar finding Luke and a great strike which hit the cross bar. The Hurst Keeper then made a good save to deny Oscar his penalty after a hand ball. However the half finished 0-0 with Hurst holding strong and us wondering where a win might come from.
The second half was more evenly matched with little in the way of any real chances. Oscar’s superbly taken free kick from the left, curled wonderfully past the keeper to give us that all important lead but we couldn’t sustain it. Within minutes Hurst had a counter attack, which we should never have let them get away with, and despite a good save, they were quick to react and follow up to make it 1-1. This is were the score stayed as we just couldn’t manufacture anything at all to get through the defensive Hurst wall.
We are better than this and head’s up for next weeks cup tie. Let’s put this one behind us and really take the game to them.
Well done Marcus for a great spell on the left and a well deserved MOTM.
Thanks to Neil for flag waving/holding today.
