Really a game of the last 10 minutes, this, when we took the game to Southdown, started playing some nice football, scored 2 fantastic goals, created chances and it should have been enough to win the game, but this is football!
The first half was a bit lack lustre and a 0-0 score line at half time was a true reflection.
The second half started in the same vein and a 0-0 mediocre game looked in the offing. Then an unfortunate handling error from Sam gifted Southdown a 1-0 lead. An eternity seemed to pass just hoping we could pull something out of the bag to at least equalise. Then almost like a light switch being flipped we started to play passing football, found some real determination, space, width, talked to each other, and started to dominate. With this came the chances. Lee pushed the ball just wide and Oscar was very unlucky, but then some magic down the right flank from Tom who crossed beautifully to Marcus then on to Lewis and 1-1. Success breeds success and the boys felt a victory was possible. Oscar played a lovely ball to Lewis who was denied a second goal by a good save from the keeper, only for the rebound to fall back to Marcus who finished in style making it 2-1. We continued the pressure and it could so easily have been 3 or even 4-1, but it wasn’t to be. Cruelly in the dying seconds we conceded a corner to Southdown, on a counter attack, and a controversial goal 2-2. Apparently a 50:50 ball with Sam’s hands and their strikers head!
Still we came away with a point and did at least demonstrate how we can play. Let’s continue that on next week.
Well done to Marcus for coming on and making a difference and contributing to both goals. A well deserved MOTM.
John was Lino today – thank you and well done for staying on your feet.
