Saint Hill Blues 1 Uckfield 4
Blues fail to turn first half domination into goals and suffer disappointing defeat
Looking for back to back wins following last week's fine team performance the Blues played some good football in the first half but failed to score when on top. Uckfield were dangerous and direct on the break and gave the Blues a lesson in finishing as they converted two of three chances to take a 2-0 lead at the interval. The bar (twice), the post and some poor finishing was not the reward that our play in the first half deserved, Sean and Sam played well down the right and with Nick pressing forward the visitors were forced to defend and somehow kept a clean sheet throughout the first 40 minutes.
The team talk at half time asked for more of the same and an energetic start to the second half, but the players were less precise and careless in possession which encouraged Uckfield to play on with confidence to win the game. Marcus won man of the match for his energetic efforts on the left of midfield, although his tired challenge late in the game gave away the penalty for the visitors' final goal. Charlie could not keep this one out, but had made two great saves earlier in the match. As ever the boys did not give up, but when we did get into good positions in the final third we managed to make some bad decisions and did not release the ball quickly enough to create too many clear chances. Finally, but too late, we scored when Nick laid the ball back to Jack to score in the top corner, his first goal for the club

A very disappointing result, pity that we could not push on in the second half and claim a result. A flattering scoreline for the visitors, but they took their chances and we did not!
