Withdean 4 Saint Hill Blues 2

An entertaining and even game played in atrocious conditions. Blues come close to recovering from 3-0 down at half time but as they chase equaliser the game slips away

Both teams deserve credit for a good game played on a heavy pitch in driving rain almost throughout. After an even start the Blues fell behind when Withdean scored at the third attempt following two excellent saves from Charlie whose handling throughout was assured. Playing down the hill and with a more physical presence the home team scored two more goals from set pieces to lead by three goals at half time. The Blues had played with spirit and some confidence throughout first half, Callum and Oliver B supporting the central defenders and always making themselves available to enable the team to play out from the back. Patrick chased as hard as ever in front of the defence to provide cover, supported by Marcus and then Jean Paul.

Playing down the slope in the second half the Blues played their best football of the season in the opinion of our hardened and loyal support. Chris drove on the team from the back and thoroughly deserved his man of the match award and Sean and Sam resumes a partnership on the right to good effect. A challenge by Robert deep in his own half won the ball and a move from back to front followed and when put through by Partick, Nick ran past the defence and around the keeper to score. The Blues now controlled the game and with Jack covering across the back line we pressed on. Nick scored his second when he ran on to an excellent through ball from Chris, game on! The Blues moved the ball well from back to front, Louis and Oliver P often finding space to provide chances that proved elusive, and as we tired towards the end the final goal sealed the game for Withdean

Managers Comments

A much improved performance, we could have taken at least a point from this match, the boys should be pleased with their efforts!
