Spirited performance but Blues lose first round cup match
Despite losing Kamal at the last minute and with Nick struggling with injury which limited his time on the pitch the boys' performance was much improved from last week. More commitment and composure on the ball enabled us to dictate more of the play, but when Sean had to leave the pitch with injury the temporary disruption to the team led to the first goal, not that substitute Luke was at fault and he continued to play a key defensive role throughout. Man of the match Oliver P created openings on the left and Marcus worked hard with Robert to put pressure on the home defence, but we could not convert the few chances created. Charlie was unlucky with the second and third goals as the bounce on an uneven pitch deceived him, but he made up with some excellent saves to keep the match tight. J-P and Chris worked more effectively together this week supported by Oli B and as Tom and Nick pressed forward we had further chances in the second half only for Sam to be denied by the keeper and Nick by the unfortunate bounce of the ball. Patrick had another strong game in midfield before moving back as another injury forced J-P off the pitch. A fourth goal was conceded from a speculative cross/shot to sum up the day, game lost but not without a fight!
Managers Comments
Pleased with improvement from the previous week, and am sure that there is more to come. Boys need to raise the competitive edge in all areas across the park and press a little harder, especially when not on the ball. Too many passes went astray today, but the intent to play the ball was better this week
