Goring CC 3 Saint Hill Blues 7

Blues win scrappy game to move up table

The Blues went in to this game on back of 4-0 win against Uckfield and with comfort of knowing that we had beaten opposition earlier in Cup game. We started with no energy against 10 men and for the first half failed to press with purpose and throughout the game our control and passing was poor. The home side took the lead with their first effort on goal, the first of a fine hattrick for the Goring striker. Tom levelled when he forced the ball home after two headers from Rob and Ashley played him in on goal. Instead of calming nerves we immediately gave ground and a second goal. Ashley scored a second equaliser before Nick converted a harsh penalty to enable us to turn round 3-2 up at the break. J-P replaced Rob and his presence at the centre of midfield gave us a better base and we finally pressed home the advantage of possession with goals from Greg, Ashley, Marcus and the best of all from Chris as he exchanged passes on a strong run forward before stroking the ball home, very Arsenal! Marcus' goal was his first for the Club and as the game became niggly we faded again allowing a further consolation to Goring

Not our best performance, but a good result. Next week we must improve 100% to give Hawks a game and ourselves a chance to reach the Cup Final!

Man of the match to Sean for stepping up and taking the goalkeepers jersey!
