Horley Town U18s 2 Saint Hill Blues 3
First League victory well deserved
The Blues put last week's disappointment behind them with a determined performance at Horley who had won our previous game 8-3! Greg volunteered to play in goal and his presence in the box provided added security to the back line, Sean had a strong match at right back as Patrick moved into midfield to add defensive cover. When we conceded the opening goal to Horley it appreared that last week's uncertainty in dealing with set pieces had returned, but a another strong run and finish from Ashley gave us the confidence to get into the game as equals. We failed to reach half time on level terms when the home team scored their second as we failed to clear our lines and then allowed the opposition space and time to place the ball into the net
J-P had put everything into the first half and was replaced at half time by Nick, Robert soon gave way to Marcus and with fresh legs we survived early pressure and started to create our own chances on the break. Patrick played a long ball wide to Marcus and when he crossed the ball eventially fell to Ashley to score his second and the Blues' equaliser. Ten minutes later and we went ahead when George shot low and hard when a half clearance reached him from a corner. Horley pressed, but the Blues held firm, Chris, Callum and Oliver B providing excellent cover and support. Sam never stopped running, Tom joining the game for the final twenty minutes to add extra energy as the boys started to tire
The final whistle was a long time coming, but was greeted with celebrations and a well deserved victory. Man of the match goes to Callum for organising the pre match party which many enjoyed until the early hours....have we discovered the ideal pre match preparation?
Best wishes from us all to Callum as he joins the Army, what a way to go!
