Saint Hill Blues 3 Maidenbower 8
Disappointing game follows last week's success
After a nervy start the Blues shared the game for the first 20 minutes and created the better chances but failed to take the lead, Ashley was denied by a fine save and Cyprian on the follow up could not find the net. Once Maidenbower scored their first from indecision in the home penaly area we lost our confidence and composure, whilst the opposition were given a little too much room to play a pass and move game, mixed up with long balls which we struggled to deal with in the wind. From early promise we slipped to a three goal deficit and despite a well struck free kick from Chris which found the net to reduce the arrears we surrendered a simple goal sson after to turn around 1-4 down. Almost from the kick off the visitors increased their lead and from then on we struggled to defend against and team with increased confidence. Some pride was restored when Jean Paul volleyed home a free kick delivered from Chris, and when Rob played a ball behind the defence for Ashley to score a comeback, however unlikely, seemed possible, but the goal was rules offside and we soon conceded again...game over!
Ashley did score as time ran down to reduce the arrears, but too often in the game we failed to play the simple game, our passing was inaccurate and too often players on the ball were not supported by team mates making themselves available.
To play well for twenty minutes and in brief patches thereafter will not win games, the team can compete, as we proved last week, but we must believe that we can beat the opposition and not allow a set back to deflate us! Greg wins our man of the match for a fine performance in goal. Onwards to next week!
