Saint Hill Blues 8 Goring CC 1

Comfortable victory in scrappy game affected by injury to Goring defender

For the second time this season we faced a Goring team fielding only 10 players, but all credit to the visitors who made life for us difficult in the early stages by pressing hard and using the ball more intelligently than us. We welcomed back Matt from long term injury and when the visitors conceded an own goal from his well taken free kick we were on the way. Too often we looked for early through balls but could not get the pace of delivery right until Tom played in Greg, his shot rebounding to Nick to tap in number two. Goring continued to play with spirit and from pressure after two corners forced in a goal that spurred the Blues to play with more conviction. The first of three first half goals from Ashley put us firmly in control, but the game was effectively ended when a Goring defender fell awkwardly under a fair challenge from Ashley and suffered a fractured collar bone

The second half was scrappy as the Blues failed to work as a team, despite messages from the side to use the time productively to practice the passing game too many players continued to look to make an individual impact. Greg scored 2 good goals, one following a strong run from midfield, but could have scored his second hattrick of the weekend, and more, with better finishing.

Victory secured but more challenging games follow!
