COMMENT: 'We may have let an early goal in but we will win this 5-1' - David MacRae 3 minutes into the game. Good call David.
The Saints conceeded an early shock goal to wake themselves up and play some of their best football in years.
Yes, after less than a minute a cross from the Seaford left was not dealt with and the Seaford midfielder slotted an excellent goal when he was allowed to lob the ball over the advancing Burgess. 1-0 Seaford.
It took another 15 minutes for the Saints to equalise when the best ball of the game from Stuart MacRae found new signing Charlie Izard on the right who put in a great cross to find Ross Martin, another Saints new signing, who slotted home from 6 yards. 1-1.
The Saints at last started to settle and to move the ball about with confidence and it was soon 2-1 to the Saints When Josh Allard coming in from the left shot/crossed the ball, it took a slight deflection of the defender which was enough to put the Saints infront 2-1 with the own goal.
At this point Seaford were still in the game and with 30 miinutes gone they were in the Saints box and a left foot shot from 6 yards which was bound for the goal, was unbelievably saved by Dan Burgess. You had to be there to appreciate what an instant reaction it was, truely first class.
Two minutes later Bridgland raced forward from left back, crossed only for the Seaford keeper to push to Alex Smith (last seasons top scorer) to open his account.
Minutes later Ross, who was struggling with a recent knee injury, flick the ball on to 'Smudger' Alex Smith who slotted his second. Half Time 4-1.
Two minutes into the start of the second half Ross Martin was replaced by Adam O'Callaghan (another new signing). Shortly after Stuart MacRae was again played an excellent pass to Adam who combined with Josh Allard who finished with a thunderous drive. 5-1.
Phil Stagg replaced Alex Smith and shortly after Dan Burgess came out of his area and was correctly adjudged to have handled the ball outside the area and received a yellow card.
5 minutes later a flustered Saints defence conceeded a penalty which Seaford netted to make it 5-2 and give them a slight glimmer of hope. Phil Stagg snuffed that out when he first got on the end of another Stuart MacRae through ball to cooly slot home and yet again from Josh Allard to take the score to 7-2 and out of sight for the Seaford lads. Joe Dupont came on for Stuart MacRae and with 5 minutes to go Josh took his second when he tapped it home to make it 8-2.
A great sart to the season for the Saints.
MOM was Matt Ruxton who had an excellent game at Right Back
